Update 2024 – Thanks largely to Councillor Duncan Enright, and despite opposition from the local conservative town councillor Shores Green isnow a reality – the Shores Green A40 junction work is planned to start in 2024 and to complete 2025.

The planning application for the new A40 slip roads at Shores Green is now open for comments. Traffic through Witney is so awful that Bridge Street has air pollution well above safe levels. The single change that would reduce it is to make the A40 junction in east Witney, over Oxford Hill, into a four-way junction. If all the traffic, cars and lorries from Burford direction, could come off at Oxford Hill and carry on towards Cogges, Madley Park, North Leigh and Hanborough, that would make a huge difference. If all the traffic from Madley and Cogges could head towards Cheltenham without going through town it would make such a difference.

Shores Green is on the list of projects to do for the County Council. However we want it to be the top priority, and not have to wait for a new housing development to start work on the junction.

Over a thousand Witney residents  signed the petition to get the planning and land purchase moving.

The planning application for the new A40 slip roads at Shores Green – known as “Access to Witney” – is now complete. This is long awaited and will reduce traffic congestion through Witney, providing an alternative for through traffic and potential for reducing vehicles (particularly heavy vehicles) on Bridge Street.

The new A40 junction will take traffic off our town's busy and polluting roads, and cut travel times Councillors Duncan Enright, Joy Aitman and Rosa Bolger
